A month ago, the Oscars took place. And as usual I am behind
on talking about this until now due to my magnificent multi-tasking and time
management skills, and the technical superiority of my laptop.
But now I have replaced it with a new one, so hopefully I
will improve, knowing that I have a reliable machine that won’t fall apart
piece by piece in the moments of needs. It seems every time I had a major
deadline my laptop decide to have a laugh at me, and add to my stress levels.
For the first assignment it decided to have a full hardware failure, which
forced me to pay shit loads of money to get it fixed within the day, and I
ended up losing everything I had, because I never back up, because I belong “it
will never happen to me” crowd. For my
second batch of assignments, the keyboard decided to have a mind of its own,
while I was en route on a plane and could not do anything about it, except
using the on screen keyboard to write an equal of 5000 words. The most recent stunt
was the charger having bipolar tendencies, and preferences of which electricity
plugs to work with, which resulted in me writing a full assignment on the
floor, and the screen doing acrobatic tricks; changing colours and flipping the
display. That was the last straw for me, so I went laptop shopping and got the
cutest one in the store. Unfortunately nothing came in pink, so I had to settle
for red.
Anyway the purpose of this post is to not about my technical
misfortunes but to give a recap of the dresses that walked the red carpet for
the Oscars. There was a lot of everything and it was a little challenging
narrowing the choices down. So, after
long deliberation between myself and my Ipad, here comes the final version of
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Oscars edition.
The Good:
The ultimate best dressed starlet of the night was Naomi Watts, and her custom made Giorgio Armani metallic dress. It fit
her perfectly, the material and the colour were sensational, and it felt like
it was molten silver on her. The design on the upper part was interesting as
well. The way she wore her hair and makeup was very compatible, and it was a
fabulous outfit all together.
Amy Adams, and her
Oscar de Larnte dress stole the
light. If there is anything I learnt from reading Gossip Girl, is that Oscar de la Larnte never fail. The
colour could have been a bit darker, but Amy
has thing for pale colours, and this time it worked for her. This is a
princess dress at its finest, and she truly looked like a Disney princess.
Jennifer Hudson
was looking fabulous, with her fish skin-like Roberto Cavalli dress. Leave it to Cavalli to give you interesting textile. The dress hugged her
slimmed down body and made her look like a mermaid of the modern age. Enough
with the poufy, hard to walk in fish tail. Mermaids just got a Roberto make over.
Salma Hayek did it
right. You can never go wrong with a black Alexander
McQueen number. It was something unexpected of the Latina to cover her
curves, but I think it is nice to experiment with different designs, and not
draw attention to them all the time. It was beautiful, elegant, and
complimented her body amazingly. I was not a big fan of the hair-do though.
The last but certainly not least on the good list is Kristin Chenoweth and her Tony Ward black bridal dress, black
dresses are instant win for me but this had more than the colour. If you want
to go poufy or princess, this is the right way to do it, dark colours and a subtle
pouf as opposed to over the top one. The dress did her wonders, and made her
seem taller as well.
The Bad:
I know some people will hate me for my first choice, but I
was not a big fan of the Dior Couture
dress chosen by Jennifer Lawrence, it
was too bridal material, and i felt like this is the kind of dress I would
admire looking at in a magazine. The patterns of the fabric looked like
wrinkles from a distance, it felt too tight on her from the chest area, and she
stepped on it and fell while walking on stage to get her Oscar, so it was not
the most practical dress. And she has a nice shape, so I don’t understand why
she would choose to hide it with layers and layers of fabric.
Amanda Seyfried
wore a non-black Alexander McQueen dress.
Say what? I did not know that McQueen Couture came in any other colour! I do
not know why she is so fixated on wearing pale colours with her really white
skin. Darker colours will complement her skin tone more, and the dress would
have looked fabulous in black. It felt like the dress aged her, and even though
it looked nice from the top, the bottom was not as great.
Reese Witherspoon,
with her blue and black Louis Vuitton
dress. What she did is very clever by choosing a dress with dark colour on the
waist area, which made her waist seem more shaped. But the dress was too
simple, with nothing about it, and I am not fan of the material of it either.
Jennifer Aniston
and her red Valentino dress. Even
though I have a love affair with Valentino,
I do not think that this dress was the best choice for Jennifer. Again too simple and ill fitting. She should have worn
something tighter, with a slit to show her fabulous legs.
Kristen Stewart,
what have you done? I though you have put your bed hair days behind you. Her Reem Acra dress was lovely, but it felt
a bit loose on the actress who decided to wear mismatching shoes to the
ceremony to cater to her injured leg. I
guess we need to give the girl some credit for managing to show up and not be bothered
by limping on stage.
The Ugly:
Anne Hathaway may
have won the Oscar, but she was out shined by her nipples. Seriously, what was she
thinking when picking that Prada dress?
If Jennifer Lawrence was the bride, then Anna
was her bridesmaid. I like the dress from the back, but from the front it was
bad. The fabric was too stiff, and her nipples got more mention in the press
than her Oscar win. She attracted attention for all the wrong reason.
Second in line are Zoe
Saldana and her white Alexis Mabille
number. At first sight I loved this dress, until she turned around and I saw it
from a different angle. It is important for a dress to photograph well 360
degrees, and the gradual length of the dress actually killed it. If the
layering was done of full length, I think it would have looked better. And the
cake frosting thing going on the upper part of the dress did not impress me
either.
Lori Singer, what
was she thinking, she looked like a leaf-less tree at winter. The color the
shape, the cut, nothing was working for her. I did not even bother looking up
the designer of this gown, because it is a disaster. I don’t know what she was
thinking going on the red carpet dressed like this.
I am a Valentino groupie;
I just adore and love everything Valentino,
specially the signature red dress. However, the vintage red Valentino dress worn by Sally Field ruined my love story. The way
she wore it was so wrong. The wrong hairstyle, the wrong clutch, and actually she
was wearing tennis shoes underneath it! This in itself is an insult to the
brand and all the glamour it carries. The dress should have been worn by
someone younger, taller and bustier in order to showcase all the beauty of the
dress.
Last on the list is Helen
Hunt and her H&M dress. Yes, you
read it right, she went to the Oscars dressed in H&M, I do not know what message she was trying to convey by
this. The fabric was cheap, and by the time she got on the red carpet it was
all wrinkly. This is a red carpet offense that no one should commit.
With a promise that I will be quicker in my posts in the
future.
Stay pink
