The Good, The Bad, &The Ugly: Grammys 2013 Edition.

Apologies, apologies for disappearing again, not keeping too well to my promise, but you got to give me credit for trying!
So in an attempt to catch on so many events, I have decided to have a “themed week” about red carpets looks, starting with the Grammys, followed by the Oscar and then we go to my side of the pond and see what London red carpet for the Bitz award carried for us. I know I am a tad bit late, but no one told me blogging is going to be a hard thing to juggle with the 100 other activities I am doing these days.
Enough with my excuses and let us get on with it.

The Good:

Princess Riri owned the night, from her beautiful performance of her new addictive hit single “Stay”, to her tribute to the legendary Bob Marley, and of course  her fabulous red carpet dress. Rihanna graced the red carpet with a matching red Azzedine Alaia number. It was princess like, unlike the usual crazy outfits opted by the controversial pop princess. Even though Riri disregarded the CBS’s memo of not showing too much skin, we are giving her a free pass this time, because he dress was phenomenal. Hands down the best dressed starlet of the night. If only we could say the same about her chosen accessory of the night, which came in the form of Chris Brown in an all-white suit.
A very close second to Princess Riri is  Miss

Taylor Swift, with yet another white gown, this time from J.Mendell upcoming spring/summer collection. The dress is very Greek inspired yet modern with its 50 shades of grey bondage tribute. It is nice that the country vixen is wearing something refreshing and age appropriate, unlike her boring dress from the Golden Globes.

Queen B had a surprise down her sleeves, wearing a monochrome jumpsuit by the young designer Osman. Such a simple yet daring choice made, she stole all the lights with this unexpected piece, and it is quite brave of her to walk down the red carpet in a onesie (British synonym of a jumpsuit), but it was perfect, fitted her just right and insinuated her curves in a very classy and flattering way.

Carrie Underwood kept it classy with the lovely sequenced Roberto Cavalli piece; it was sexy yet elegant, showed up her curves and kept it interesting.
The last person who made to the best dressed list is model Chisy Eign with her two piece ensemble from

Joy Cioci. I am not the biggest fan of Chisy because she is the girlfriend of John Legend, whom I adore. However I had to suck it up this time and give it to her, the wardrobe choice was daring but so elegant and properly executed, and since she is a model, she pulled it off with her toned legs and flat belly.

The Bad:
These are the dresses that were not completely horrendous, but still not good enough.
let’s start with Alexa Chung and her spring inspired Valentino dress. I love Alexa and her Europian sense of fashion, and I am obsessed with Valentino dresses, and I have nothing against the dress except the fact that it is not red carpet material. First of all the ceremony was held in February which is winter, the dress is appropriate for a day time charity event, but not for the biggest night in the music industry. This is the type of dress someone would wear for a Bbq party whenever the bipolar weather of England allow us to do so, but definitely not for a red carpet event.

Carly Rae Jepsen was also opting up a Roberto Cavalli dress which was a bit similar to the one of Carrie Underwood, but still it did not match up to it. The dress was ill fitting, not showcasing the body in a good way. Or maybe it is just the terrible blue eye make-up, and the out-dated fringe. Or maybe it is a combination of all three. Bottom line is, completely unimpressed with her dress choice.

Guliana Rancic’s nude Carlos Miele dress resembled more of a cabbage than a dress. I find it to be quite ironic that the fashion police presenter is not taking her own advice that she gives on the show, how could she sit there and judge what other people are wearing, when she wore such a mess of a dress, it is just swallowing her slender frame, and giving an overall bad effect.

Kelly Roland and her Georges Chakra black item were just plain bad. Apparently she did not read the memo, and to add insult to injury she chose the most revealing dress she could possible fined. Even though her body looked phenomenal, sill it was too much with the cuts strategically placed to barely cover the most critical parts of the breasts, and it is not  good idea having all these different lines pointing in the direction of the crotch, it just draws attention to an unwanted area. Bad Kelly bad, she could learn a thing or two from her ex-band mates.

Last on the list of the bads, is Katy Perry and her mint green Gucci number. It is just bad bad bad, not only the key hole was leaving too little for the imagination, the colour of the dress was bad, the hair do was not going well either. I love long sleeved, key hole dresses’, but this one was just plain bad. These dresses are meant to be worn by slender women with size A breasts, not double Ds.

And the Ugly:

I had a hard time narrowing down the ugly dresses list to only five, but after deep consideration the abridged version is as follows:

Florence Welch with her Givenchy haute couture, Jurassic park inspired dress!!! The colour, the material, the studs, everything about the dress was bad. It was some fashion critiques favourite for its boldness, but it is not happening for me. The studs are oversized, placed in all the wrong parts of the dress, and usually studs come in silver or gold, not matching the colour of the dress, the sequence material was too much. I really lover Florence and her music, but her fashion choices, not at all.

Jennifer Lopez, it seems like the Golden Globes were too good to be true, the dress is just ugly. Again showing too much skin is never a good thing, the design is really out-dated, and not doing the curvy Latino any good, it makes her look pregnant. In fact this would have been an appropriate sexy dress if she was still pregnant with her twins and married to Marc Anthony, but she has no excuse to be wearing this now. She tried to make a joke while on stage by saying she read the memo, and she won’t repeat the Versace disaster which happened a decade ago, but this one was just as bad. The dress is designed by Anthony Vaccarello.

Look who came back from the dead and straight to the worst dressed list, Ashanti with her Tony Ward, backless, black, floral chiffon dress with a key hole and open slit. The girl just pulled an Eva Langoria, and not in a good way. Incorporating several good designs into one dress is never a good idea; in fact it can end up in disaster like this dress. She was just trying too hard to get attention, and she got it in a bad way.

Kimbra and her Jaime Lee dress was a major disaster on the red carpet. The design was so Gaga inspired, did not do the singer any good and it looked cheap. Too bad received her Grammy wearing THAT.

Last on the list is Estelle and her patterned cropped top and skirt by Genelle Brooks and Love Collins. The brits have shamed us this time. The pattern was bad, the colour scheme was bad, the top was not cropped at the right length, the outfit did not do her body any justice. Estlle wearing this you will never get your American boy.

That was the review of the Grammys, a month delayed, but still as good.
Promise promise promise my next post will be soon.
And until then
Stay pink
